Updated Jby Mark Hospodar:Recently, Total War fans received some disappointing news. Whether it's due to a poor starting location, sub-par unit rosters, or being surrounded by a multitude of enemies looking for blood, these Total War factions have the toughest time trying to survive past the first handful of turns. No matter the time period being covered, every game in the series has its collection of factions that are a challenge to master.

RELATED: Total War: Easiest Factions To Play In The Grand Campaign Fans of the series will undoubtedly know that this is easier said than done for certain factions. The Total War franchise encapsulates this difficulty by putting players in the shoes of great generals and statesmen and tasking them with leading their chosen country to greatness. Defending against Harad properly is nigh on impossible.Grand strategy games, much like life itself, can be difficult. Gondor has war on literally all borders, having to defend a minimum of three areas at once right from Turn 2 - and rushing Mordor brings out the spam-script of Olog-Hai. The Dwarves of Khazad-Dum are buggy (but playable!) and have one heck of a problem in the early game, being unable to recruit and sieged by full-stacks - also their roster is literally a smaller Dwarves of Erebor roster, but without all the shiny elites and with only one axethrower unit as new. The Dwarves of Ered Luin are a very powerful faction whose recruitment is hampered by the fact that everywhere apart from their capital is a village or worse (Erebor doesn't have this problem), until they take Carn Dum. In fact, Dwarves "elites" are barely better than Dwarven "stock infantry " and that's because their stock infantry is blatantly OP. In fact, their elites are spammable because there are SO MANY OF THEM. Their infantry is also spammable (even moreso as the Dwarves of Erebor) and their starting position is the best in the entire game.
